The match on July 31 will mark the first time NWSL teams have faced each other in Richmond since 2018
RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers and Richmond Ivy SC are excited to announce that City Stadium will host an NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup Match on Wednesday, July 31 between the Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars.
The National Women’s Soccer League and LIGA MX Femenil will compete in the first-ever NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup. The tournament will feature all 14 NWSL clubs and the six teams with the most points achieved in LIGA MX Femenil Clausura and Apertura during 2023, including Tigres UANL, Club América, Chivas de Guadalajara, Rayadas de Monterrey, Pachuca and Tijuana.
Kicking off on July 19, the 33-match tournament will consist of 30 group stage contests, followed by a four-team semifinal round slated for the week of August 4. The championship match will take place the weekend of October 25-27.
The match between the Spirit and Red Stars will be the first between NWSL sides at City Stadium since 2018 when the Spirit faced NC Courage in a preseason match in March 2018.
Presale tickets for the match will go live for Washington Spirit season ticket members and CityStadium+ members on Monday, May 6 at noon. Tickets will go live to the public on Thursday, May 9.
