RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Ivy (5-4-0, 15 pts) fell on the road to Eagle FC (8-0-1, ), 0-2 at Mountain View Middle School. Despite consistent push from the Ivy that just couldn’t find the back of the net, two balls through on the counter would force the home team up over the Ivy.
The Ivy pushed quickly, seeing an opportunity as early as the third minute as Kanna Matsuhisa shot up the right side for a shot that was ultimately blocked.
Eagle would break through early with a goal in the seventh minute forcing a one-on-one situation on keeper Lauren Hargrove.
Five minutes later, Matsuhisa got a beautiful shot off from the top of the box in an attempt to answer but it would ding the crossbar and stay out.
On the other end of the field, a 15th minute foul from Eagle FC gave Hanna Heaton a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box but the wall hopped up into the path of the strike.
Sarah Flammia would force a save from Eagle’s goalkeeper Malene Nielsen in the 21st minute with her own beautiful strike that forced Nielsen to get way up off the ground.
In the 32nd minute, Hargrove made a stellar last-second kick-save on another one-on-one situation from Eagle forward Justyce Hollenbach. She would do it again when the Ivy returned from the half break, this time making a kick save on an attack from the right.
The home team would score another in the 57th minute bringing the score to 2-0.
Shortly after, in the 64th minute, an attempt from Matsuhisa would force a corner that she would send in beautifully. Eagle would try to clear and take off the other way but Kenley Campbell — putting on a defensive master class all night — would beat their striker to the ball and stop the Eagle momentum, sending the ball back in for Richmond possession.
The Ivy are back on the road Wednesday, June 19 at Christos FC. Then, the Ivy return home to City Stadium to Eagle FC on Friday, June 21 when the team will host a Summer Solstice Party. Kickoff for the match is set for 7:00 p.m. Get your tickets now at richmondivy.com/tickets.
