Woodson finds another, Landel nabs first of the season and Rosenbaum first of her Ivy career

The Richmond Ivy (2-1-1, 7 pts) defeated Virginia Atlantic FC (0-2-0, 0pts) 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Powhatan Stadium. Ivy forwards Olivia Woodson and Maci Landel both found the back of the net, as did this match’s debutante, midfielder Sarah Rosenbaum.
Olivia Woodson got the Ivy on the board early, helping to create another quick opportunity. The Auburn forward received a cross Maci Landel after Sarah Rosenbaum had won the ball and brought it up the pitch. Woodson buried it one touch before any time had passed.
Rosenbaum, making her Ivy debut, would facilitate all day for the Richmond side but also found one for herself in the 22nd minute. Off a throw-in from the right touchline, Rosenbaum gained control of the ball, turned, and beat her defender to take a rip from the top of the box and into the upper 90. The Virginia Tech midfielder put the Ivy up 2-0.
The Ivy’s third goal of the match came from returner Maci Landel in the 33rd minute. Landel had been tearing up and down the right side throughout the match and finding fellow forwards Taylor Berry and Woodson in turn.
After stripping the Atlantic of the ball a few times, Landel helped drive up the right again before overlapping in towards the center. A long cross, that angled almost more like a shot from Berry was deflected by the Virginia Atlantic defense but Landel scooped it up, found a little space and buried the last Ivy goal of the match.
Just before the half Rosenbaum shook two defenders and found Woodson lying in wait but the attempt from Woodson fell just wide, seconds before the first half whistle.
The Ivy would continue to push throughout the second half, bringing on the whole bench, including Richmond United players Madison Abi-Saab and Molly Flammia. Virginia Atlantic earned a late penalty that Lauren Hargrove guessed right on but just couldn’t get a hand to in time but the Ivy were able to keep them from any other creation throughout the afternoon.
The Richmond Ivy are back on the pitch Saturday, May 31 in Annapolis as they take on the Annapolis Blues (1-0-0, 3 pts). The Ivy will return to City Stadium on June 5 for the semifinal of the Brandi Chastain Cup, the country’s premier amateur women’s soccer tournament. Get your tickets now at richmondivy.com/tickets .
