The battle between the two teams quickly became a stalemate but the Ivy controlled the pace of play

The Ivy (1-0-1, 4 pts) took on the Charlottesville Blues (0-0-1, 1 pt) and earned a hard fought draw at home for their second match of the season.
The Ivy controlled the match entirely, holding most of the possession and seeing more than 10 opportunities on net.
Several Ivy players saw many chances. Drives from Olivia Woodson and Sunniyah Tucker saw them go for goal but ultimately miss just wide. Former Richmond Ivy keeper Keely Thomas played an intense match for the Blues, flying all over her box.
One of Charlottesville’s few opportunities came in the sixth minute where In the 6th minute, Charlottesville sent the ball towards goal but it flew well above the crossbar.
In an answer, Iisa Elovaara stood over a free kick opportunity a minute later but it also just slightly cleared the cross bar.
In the 27th minute, Shaye Doherty sent the ball towards goal, almost swinging it in herself. Taylor Berry went to head it back on frame but a Charlottesville defender knocked her down and headed it herself.
The second half opened with neither Ivy and the Blues on the board.
In the 57th minute, Ivy corner breaks down but Sunniyah wins the ball back and dribbles through every Charlottesville defender but Thomas recovers it. And in the 64th, Woodson shook two defenders but her shot just missed the top of Berry’s head.
In the 74th, Sharrer streaked up the left side, the sophomore headed to U-16 USWYNT play, in a beautiful shot that just cleared the crossbar.
In the 80th minute, there’s a save from Logan Marks off a CVL cross.
In the 88th, Woodson sent a ball curving towards the goal but it lifted just over the head of Berry and out of reach. In the 89th, Sarah Flammia took a shot which Keely blocked and earned a corner but the Ivy just couldn’t get a striking bounce through the Blues defense.
The Ivy return to the pitch for their first two away matches next week, playing Wednesday and Saturday at Virginia Beach United and Virginia Atlantic FC respectively. The Ivy return home June 5 for the Brandi Chastain Cup Semifinal against the New England Mutiny in the battle to see who will represent the East Coast in the final.
