Tucker, Woodson and Berry found one each for the W League side beginning its sophomore campaign

Richmond, Va. — The Richmond Ivy (1-0-0, 3 pts) defeated Virginia Beach United (0-1-0, 0 pts) 3-0 in their sold out home opener. In front of 6000 fans, Ivy newcomer Sunniyah Tucker scored the first goal of the 2025 season off a ball over the top from Kameron Simmonds. Fellow newcomer Olivia Woodson scored the second on the night and Ivy veteran Taylor Berry rounded out the points on the night.
Tucker started in on the Virginia Beach (VB) defense early. In the 4th minute Tucker received a ball from Sarah Flammia and took off down the right flank. She took a shot towards goal but the VB keeper made the stop.
Five minutes later, Tucker found Olivia Woodson who forced the opposing keeper to make the save. And again in the 11th, Chrapek crossed into Berry but another wild save from the VB keeper kept the Ivy off the board.
Through the first 30, Simmonds and Tucker would continue to bother the Virginia Beach backline.
Virginia Beach didn’t see many opportunities on the night but found a corner in the 39th. Hargove quickly corralled the attempt and shut it down to lead the Ivy into the half, up 1-0.
The Ivy wouldn’t waste any time coming out of the half. After forcing Virginia Beach to make another save, Taylor Berry put herself in the path of the clearance. She found Woodson moving up the left flank. Woodson took a touch into the box before sending the ball over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for the second Ivy goal.
In the 60th minute, Taylor Berry would find one more to seal the deal on the night.
From there, the Ivy kept pushing while protecting the ball. They saw a few more attempts but those would get scooped up by the United keeper. In the last few minutes, Virginia Beach found some life but Hargrove made two saves to keep them off the board and earn the first clean sheet of the 2025 campaign.
Richmond spotlighted Sunniyah Tucker as player of the match with her standout performance.
The Ivy will remain home at City Stadium for their next regular season match against the Charlottesville Blues on Saturday, May 17. The Ivy will host a Green Out Night at 7 pm. Go get your tickets now at richmondivy.com/tickets.
