The Richmond Ivy headed up to Annapolis to take on the Blues but after an even match, ultimately fell 1-0 to the home team.
Starting off strong, on the defensive side, Hargrove stepped well in front of an Annapolis attempt, stopping the first shot of the game. In the 14th minute, Annapolis tried again, driving up the left side and taking a shot, but Hargrove dove down using her body to stop the ball well before the goal mouth.
Ivy responded on the counterattack a minute later. Maci Landel drove up the left side, sending a ball to Taylor Berry. Berry slid to connect but didn’t quite reach the ball.
In the 16th minute, Tucker won the ball against Annapolis and drove up the middle, shaking defenders as she went. She sent a beautiful ball towards goal from just past the 18 but it glided just past the post.
The Ivy wouldn’t slow down in the first, Berry slipped past a defender and drove to the center to take a shot in the 29th minute. The Annapolis goalie responds by hitting it out the end line, creating a corner for the Ivy that they were just unlucky not to capitalize on.
Flammia and Tucker showed off their speed and footwork as they ran up the left side to drive to the middle in the 39th minute. Tucker took the ball and passed Annapolis defenders with speed as she sent another shot flying to the goal from just outside the box. It was tipped off by a defender and sent off course.
The two teams played evenly in the first half and the Ivy fought harder in the second in an attempt to get on the board.
In the 75th minute, Annapolis took a shot to the middle of the box from a corner. The Ivy just couldn’t clear it and Annapolis got a second touch that slipped past Hargrove into the back of the net.
Berry led the relentless Ivy push, looking to answer in the 79th minute by running up the midfield with the ball. She passed to Sarah who picked it up and took a shot, but the Annapolis goalie made the save.
In the 84th minute, Jill Flammia took off and created an opportunity, taking a shot that unluckily hit the crossbar. Sarah attempted to finish it but the Annapolis goalie stepped in the way to save the attempt.
