Defending the Home Pitch: The Richmond Ivy (3-2-3, 12 pts) is slated to face off against Virginia Beach United on Saturday, June 26, as the club hosts Fan Appreciation Night at City Stadium. The matchup is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Virginia Beach United is currently ranked second in the USL W Chesapeake Division with 12 points and a 4-3 record.
These clubs have grown familiar with one another this season, splitting their two matchups in May. In Richmond’s first match of the season, a sold-out home opener on May 10, the Ivy kept Virginia Beach off the scoreboard while netting three goals of their own.
The most recent matchup, a mid-week contest in Virginia Beach on May 21, ended in a 2-0 victory for the home team. In the series’ previous matches, offense has been the key. The squad led by Head Coach Owusu Sekyere looks to stay on the attack against another intrastate opponent.
In Dominating Fashion: The Ivy put together a full 90-minute masterclass on Saturday, as they not only shut out Virginia Atlantic FC defensively, but also found the back of the net five times on offense. Richmond jumped out to an early lead with the help of a Sarah Flammia goal in the second minute. In the 13th minute, it was Molly Flammia’s turn, as she buried a shot after being set up by Player of the Match, Taylor Berry. After halftime, Sarah Rosenbaum connected with the lightning-fast Olivia Woodson, who ripped a shot past the keeper in the 50th minute. Taylor Berry found the back of the net in the 63rd minute, and a flawless cross from Bree Fulkerson in the 85th fell into the lap of Woodson for her second goal of the night. Camryn Miller recorded a clean sheet in goal, with the help of the Ivy defense, including Alexis Pierce and Maysen Nelson. Saturday’s game marked the second of two pairings between the clubs for the 2025 season, as Richmond swept the series, two games to none.
Spotlight on Woodson: In her first season with the club, Auburn’s Olivia Woodson has been sensational on the offensive end of the pitch. Mostly serving in a mid-game “super sub” role, Woodson has netted five goals to claim the top spot in the USL W Chesapeake Division. The Richmond native ignites the Ivy’s offense when she steps on the pitch by using her perfect combination of pace and finesse to create scoring opportunities. Woodson has quickly become the favorite target for midfielders, Sarah Rosenbaum and Sarah Flammia, always ready to make a run, receive a through ball, and put a shot on frame.
